Practitioner Training

Welcome to our practitioner training area!

Our person-centred, outcome-led training workshops and courses have been developed in response to practitioner feedback and requests for a training experience that is accessible, engaging, flexible, informative and relevant and that offers straightforward, safe and effective approaches, techniques and tools, for supporting children and young people's mental health.

We have also consulted with young people, parents and carers to identify what, in their view, would be helpful for practitioners to understand from their viewpoint. The workshops are equally relevant for those that have no experience of the field of mental health, as well as those that work with children and young people who may be experiencing mental health issues. The approaches offer both preventative options, as well as tools that will help a child or young person that may have issues with their mental health in different ways.

While we have face-to-face and virtual dates for all services, our face-to-face booking numbers have been severely impacted this last 12 months by staff shortages, cost of living impacts and the industrial action that has been a regular feature of our society's landscape. Therefore, for Spring 2024 we will offer a selection of our key  workshop titles in person and offer all dates virtually as usual.  Feedback shows that our virtual training style offers an engaging, enjoyable and interactive experience ....There is never any power point on our watch!

Summerhouse Services has gained a reputation for being able to combine Humanist, non-clinical approaches that are highly effective and professional, in an environment that is relaxed, supportive, creative and enjoyable and we work in small groups for all services.  The training style promotes discussion, group interaction and lively participation, with regular use of music, drama, appropriate humour and occasionally working outdoors; this tends to provide a more enjoyable experience for you and you are thereby more likely to remember the content!

While the subjects covered are often highly emotive and can be very distressing for some to talk about;  we fully respect this and aim to offer a sensitive and empathic approach and you are always welcome to get in touch for a chat beforehand if you have any concerns around this.

We have received extremely positive feedback across the board for all services, since operations as a not-for-profit began in May 2021 and you can see examples of feedback from attendees on the workshop pages in this section.  All workshops are both standalone in nature and are also commonly bolted together, through return bookings, to provide a comprehensive and also very flexible package of training for those that access them.

We also offer a bespoke, consultancy service, that can tailor training to your specific needs and deliver at your own venue or on Zoom if wished.  Please contact Penny for more details.

If you have any questions, would like to be put into our distribution list, or have requests for specific subjects to be covered, please do not hesitate to contact us for a chat.  We look forward to hearing from you !
